Adult hearing tests
The gold standard of clinical testing
To understand what’s going on with your hearing in real world situations, we take hearing testing above and beyond what you’d expect. We check every part of your hearing system step by step, test your ability to hear speech in simulated noise and use video otoscopy so you can see exactly what we see.
If you have been to a hearing clinic before, you will find A Better Ear immediately refreshing and different. Our personal approach, and clinical attention to detail, is all about helping you make a well informed and supported decision about your hearing health. You are in the driver’s seat. We help you navigate.
To understand your hearing in everyday situations, we follow the gold standard of clinical testing as directed by Audiology Australia, and deliver it via the practical and evidence based, family centred care methodology. By prioritising patient need, and maintaining a cutting edge understanding of developments in Audiological science, we have built a reputation for life-changing patient outcomes. We do this through genuine dealings and clinical integrity. It is qualities like these that set us apart.
If you have never discussed hearing loss with anyone, you will see that we understand the burden hearing loss places on you in social settings. We started A Better Ear to help people like you maintain a confident and socially engaged life. Restoring people’s ability to engage unselfconsciously in social settings with friends and loved ones, is what motivates us to come to work each day!
Clinical fee; $145.00*

In the interests of transparency, clinical fees are independent from the cost of your hearing aid. This allows you to see exactly what you are paying for and helps us keep our prices low. Thoroughness and transparency
We check every part of your hearing system step by step. Our Principal Audiologist and owner, Penelope Woods
BMus, MAudS, MaudA (CCP), is post-tertiary qualified and enjoys introducing her patients to the wonders of brain
and ear hearing. This means that patients leave with a better understanding of their hearing health and are therefore better equipped to make informed decisions about their full range of options.
During an audiological assessment she examines your ear canal, checks the health and function of your middle ear,
performs “beep” tests, and always tests your ability to hear speech in noisy and quiet environments. Very
importantly, she takes an interest in getting to know what makes you tick. This is to understand the bigger picture,
that is, how your hearing is impacting your daily life. By taking the time to ask, she is better able to help you meet
the goals you walked in with.
We see ourselves as part of your healthcare network and to that end Penelope has actively developed strong
relationships with Doctors in Cleveland, Ormiston, Wellington Point, Thornlands, Victoria Point, Alexandra Hills and across Redland City.
Hearing clinics that ‘tell and sell’
At A Better Ear, a hearing test is not a springboard to a sales pitch. It is about understanding the health of your hearing system and how that impacts your life. It is about developing strategies for better communication and about continuing to live an active and engaged lifestyle. It is about educating you on tinnitus management, brain health and lots more. If you are ready, we can advise you on hearing aid suitability too.
A hearing tests is just the beginning of how we can help your hearing, communication, and relationships. To find out more or to book your appointment please contact us now.
